When someone says “Paris,” you probably imagine visiting le Musée d’Orsay and drinking coffee on outdoor terraces. However, Paris also has a vibrant, exciting nightlife culture. Here are our favorite things to do in Paris at night.
The Best Things to do in Paris at Night
Here are two of my favorite places to go if you want to let loose and dance off your third croissant of the day. Le Cavern, located in the 6th arrondissement, is a great, relaxed dance club and bar for those in their 20s and early 30s. I recommend trying the wines and beers, rather than the liquors. You should expect live French or American music or an electronic DJ. The best part? Locals actually go here.
Supersonic, located in the 12th arrondissement, offers free live gigs in a two-floor loft space. Alcohol is relatively cheap and they offer some quick tapas and fast-food bites. Come here to dance, drink, and hangout in a cool, rock environment.
See a cabaret show
Founded in 1889, the Moulin Rouge is a symbol of the Parisian Belle Epoque. After dinner in Montmartre, walk over to le Boulevard de Clichy to enjoy a dazzling, exciting, cabaret. A couple of other shows to check out are Crazy Horse and Lido. Don’t forget to reserve your tickets in advance!
Go to a wine bar
You can’t visit Paris without trying French wine, and a wine bar is the perfect place to explore all the flavors France’s vines have to offer. This is one of the best things to do in Paris at night, without being touristic or breaking the bank.
I recommend trying Vivant, a traditional style winery headed by a Japanese chef. Not only do they have amazing wine, but they serve unique fusion-style dishes that combine Japanese precision with French indulgence. If you’re looking for a livelier scene, I recommend Le Porte-Pot, located in the 5th arrondissement. On Thursdays, you can enjoy a jazz concert while you sip your new favorite wine.
If you’re looking for a top wine bar experience, you should definitely visit O Chateau. It has been named the best wine bar in Paris and is the only Parisian wine bar to win the Wine Spectator Award of Excellence. They even offer oenology (wine studies) in both French and English!
Take a Seine River cruise
Seine River boat cruises typically last one hour, unless you select a cruise that includes dinner. For an affordable way to see some of Paris’ most beautiful sites lit up at night, check out the cruises offered by Vedettes du Pont Neuf. After you purchase your tickets online, they are valid for one year. This is incredibly convenient, as you can enjoy the cruise on any day of your trip!
Sip cocktails at a speakeasy
If you’re looking to sip your cocktails 1920s Prohibition-style, look no further than Paris’ “speakeasies”. They are mysterious and hidden, yet glamorous and exciting. If you’re a fan of smoky mezcal alcohol, be sure to find your way to the hidden bar behind the kitchen of Hotel 1K’s Peruvian restaurant, La Mezcaleria. If you’re hoping to really work for your speakeasy experience, try Le Lavomatic, located in le République. The ground floor of the building is a fully-functional Laundertte. After walking up a spiral staircase, you enter into a cool interior where you can relax on a pop art style sofa with your Drunk in Love cocktail. Don’t miss out on Paris’ speakeasies, which are truly one of the best things to do in Paris at night.
See a ballet or contemporary dance show
As a former dancer, I always jump at the opportunity to see Paris’ world class dancers perform. Trained to perfection and gifted with a gorgeous performance space, the dancers of the Paris Opera Ballet should not be missed! If you’re looking to see something a little less classical, check out this local website for a great list of current contemporary dance shows.
I hope that this post about the best things to do in Paris at night has made you even more excited for your time in the city of lights.
