City of Reims

City of Reims

Reims, a city located in the north East part of France, the administrative capital of the famous Champagne region, it hides many sights and history, from old history until the most recent one.

City of Reims

Saint Remi Basilica

Reims is known in France for being the place where the kings were crownd, specifically, up to 26 kings took over the reign of France from this city. After the World Wars, the city met a fast reconstruction and you will be able to appreciate both the sights of the past and the lively modern city combined.

In Reims you can find one of the most beautiful cathedrals in France, the Reims Cathedral. Built in 1211, it became a glorious example of the Gothic style. It is home of more than 1 million visitors per year.

Talking about religious monuments, Reims also has the basilica Saint Remi, which is as beautiful as the cathedral itself.

You will also have the chance to visit the Palais du Tau museum, where you will be able to appreciate statues from the cathedrale’s facades, precious tapestries, coronation jewels and more. All framed with an historical explanation.

City of Reims

Champagne Park

In addition, the city offers one of the most lively neighborhoods, called Boulingrin, which is around the city hall. You will find a lively and easygoing atmosphere, you can relax having a drink and contemplating the movements of the city. Also, in this area you will find the market of Reims, a building classified as an historical monument, where you can find an important food market.

Last but not least, the city has a park called Champagne Park which covers around 22 acres. Discover its gardens and green fields, feel free to walk on it and take a breath wrapped in nature.

City of ReimsThe city of Reims is worth-visiting for its main particular sights: history, lively districts and champagne combined in one.

Famous brands such as Veuve Clicquot, Pommery or Mumm can be found in the city. You can take a guided tour to discover the long underground caves and taste some exclusive champagnes.

Reims Cathedral

With more than 1 million of visitors per year, the Reims Cathedral, best known as the Notre-Dame of Reims (Our Lady of Reims), is one of the best examples of Gothic architecture.

Reims CathedralIt is one of the tallest cathedrals in Europe: inside, the roof reaches up to 38 meters! The cathedral itself is composed by two towers that reach 86 meters. You can climb the 249 steps leading to the balconies in the towers, to discover a great view of the city as well as the Gallery of Kings sanctuary. Moreover, the building contains one of the biggest expositions of statues, with a particular fact: each other try to interact with other statues, just like a comic!

In addition, this is the place where all the French kings were crowned, up to 26 kings walked through the cathedral in the coronation procedure!

The cathedral was built from the year 1211 (even if it existed a previous cathedral under the title of the Virgin Mary) and finished in 1275. However, during all this centuries, the cathedral has suffered wars, fires and reconstructions. The most recent occurrence was during the German attack in the first World War, where Reims was heavely damaged. The city has been rebuilt and now the cathedral shows, for instance, new glass windows, made by famous artists like Chagall.

Reims CathedralThe cathedral is worth-visiting. Not only for being one of the best buildings which express the Gothic style, but also for the hidden history within its walls. For this reason, we highly recommend to take a guided tour, where you will be able to learn about all the occurrences and events that took part in the building: since the first Christian King of the Franks, baptized in the Reims Cathedral in the year 496, passing through Joan of Arc, until the World Wars.

Inside the building, you will be able to admire more than 2000 statues. Moreover, many of them can also be also found in the Palais du Tau.

Hours: 7:30 am to 7:30 pm.

Prices: Free. But for the cathedral towers there is an additional price.

City of Épernay, champagne in 2 days

City of Épernay

130 kilometers far from Paris, the capital city of France, we can find the capital of the Champagne region: Épernay. World-famous brands such as Moët & Chandon or Dom Perignon are located here. But why is champagne so famous in the city of Épernay?

City of ÉpernayWHAT TO SEE?

Located in the Marne department, the city of Épernay is famous for its large wine lands. However, this city became famous worldwide for being home to one of the most luxurious drinks:  champagne.

This drink is mostly known for its particular use around the world. City of ÉpernayFor example, it is common to uncork a bottle of champagne when a Formula 1 driver wins a race. Champagne is also used in celebrations like perhaps when families celebrate New Year’s Eve. Or it is even used when a bottle of champagne is ceremonially thrown against the hull of a boat to christen it before its launching. But why is this drink so famous out of all the different types of wine in the world? Well, perhaps the difference can be found not just in the taste, but in the controlled designation of origin.

Yes, Épernay and a few regions next to it are exclusive in producing champagne. All the champagne of the world in fact is produced in this region of France! If the “champagne” is produced in other lands, then it won’t be considered as Champagne.

City of ÉpernayFor this reason, Épernay’s economy is based on the land: the production and the distribution of champagne. Épernay is home of famous brands such as Perrier Jouet, Mercier champagne, Demoiselle, Moët & Chandon or Dom Perignon, for example.

All of them are located specifically in one point: the Avenue of the Champagne, where you can find all houses one right next to the other. On this famous avenue, you are encouraged to enter the champagne houses by taking a guided visit, as well as tasting different champagne. Discovering the local producers of champagne is also a good idea, taking into account that you will be able to learn all the procedure of making champagne from them.

City of ÉpernayYou can walk on the Avenue of the Champagne and see the most famous houses, but perhaps the most interesting is to get out of the city and meet other producers onsite with the help of a private driver to get you there.

We highly recommend that you visit the region of Épernay, not just because of the city (typical french), but for the wines they produce. As we said before, this zone is unique in the world. Don’t you want to know where all the champagne you’ve tried comes from? If you are in France, you should seriously consider a visit!

You can get there with car from Reims or from Paris with a private car. However, some trains are also available from Paris.

Hours: Houses may open from  9 am to 11:30 am and from 2 pm to 4:30 pm

Prices: Free

Access: By car or by train from Paris.

montmartre tour, beautiful places in Paris to visit

Montmartre Tour

Located in the northern part of Paris, the Montmartre neighborhood is famous for its bohemian streets, its historical night life, and its main and most significant monument, the Sacré-Cœur, which is located on the top of a 130 meters hill.

Apartments for rent Paris, montmartre tourWHAT TO VISIT?

The Montmartre neighborhood is famous for being home to the pioneers of the avant-garde movements during the 20th century. Artists like Van Gogh, Picasso, and Amedeo Modigliani lived in this iconic district of Paris. A guided Montmartre tour will not only show you the lively streets and the cultural environment, but it will also give you hints about what is hidden behind the close doors…  You will for instance pass by the house in which Picasso lived and painted his famous masterpiece: Les Demoiselles d’Avignon (1907).

In addition, Montmartre has one of the most important monuments in the city – the Sacré-Cœur Basilica. Located at the top of a 130 meters tall hill, the basilica offers you the second highest view point over Paris, after the Eiffel Tower. From this point, you can observe almost all of the city: the Eiffel Tower, the Arc de Triomphe, the Montparnasse Tower, the Panthéon, La Défense…and so much more.

You can wander in the streets all by yourself to feel the atmosphere, but do not fall in the trap of only going to the basilica and to the place du Tertre, the famous square where painters sell their artworks and offer to draw your portrait. There is much more to see! At ParisByM, we include a self-guided walking itinerary in our packages so that you are sure not to miss what is worth seeing. Check our packages here.

With its bohemian atmosphere, Montmartre is also the place of birth of the first and most famous cabaret in the world: The Moulin Rouge. Even though it may seem pretty touristy nowadays, we still highly recommend that you spend an evening there as the show is definitely a must-see of Paris.

Scenic, Paris, Sunday, Montmartre Tour

A sunny day at one of our city’s many markets.

If you prefer a guided tour, the most interesting one we recommend is the 2-hour tour, available in various languages, and divided into small groups.
If you love art and music, this is your place!  Should you really want not to miss a single bite, you could also take a 7-hour tour in Montmartre, but we only recommend that for experts… You will have the chance of learning every single detail of this curious “village” and its neighborhood lifestyle.

In addition, the basilica offers many different activities during the day. You can take a look into the chart of services here.

Several companies operate in this activity. While the cheapest ones might obviously be of lower quality, the 2 or 3 most commonly used are pretty much equivalent in terms of quality and prices.

The main difference is that some companies offer various circuits, which allow you to switch from one loop to another and back, depending on the time you have available and on your interest for discovering less touristy neighbourhoods.

Another difference is about the top deck, which can be fully covered with some companies and not with others… Watch out on those rainy days! Lastly, the audio comments are really fascinating with some companies, while they are just interesting with others…

Looking for a Tour Company in Paris? If you are in a hurry, you should consider doing the standard bus tour without stopping which takes approximately 2 hours.
