3 Places to Stay In Paris

Where to stay in Paris?

Student Hostels in Paris

Hostels for Every Student Trip

Finding a reasonably priced hotel can be difficult in large European cities, especially for large groups. Hostels, however, are a great solution for you and your next class trip. Whether you are a group of University students backpacking through Europe or high school students on an educational adventure in Paris, there is reasonably priced accommodation for all ages at European hostels. But before you press that “Book It Now!” button, there are a few things you should know about student hostels in Paris.

Much like hotels, every hostel has their own unique identity. This being said, not all hostels are friendly to all ages. Your stay and experience can differ greatly depending on the atmosphere of the accommodation.  Some hostels provide a more quiet, relaxed environment, while others attract those looking to party.

Here are some of things to know before booking a hostel for your student group.

For High School Students Traveling with Teachers: Ages 13 to 16

Student Hostels in Paris

Before booking your hostel, one thing you need to check is the age restrictions. Many hostels will not accept groups under the age of 16. Furthermore, hostels that do accept student groups at this age may have terms that your group must follow. For example, there may need to be a certain number of chaperones on the trip to make a reservation and they must all be present at check-in to ensure the group is adequately supervised. For groups in this age range, the hostels are more likely to be located in safe neighborhoods located near schools and neighborhoods saturated with families. These areas are safer for the younger students and offer more security for the groups. This type of hostel is quieter and more relaxed which allows students and teachers to enjoy the educational experience and provides the parents with a sense of serenity knowing their children are safe.

For University Students Traveling with Teachers: Ages 17-22

Traveling in groups at this age may also require a few verifications before booking. In student groups ages 16 to 18, a chaperone is required to complete the booking and to be present at check-in at most hostels. You will also have to make sure the hostel knows the number of students, between the ages of 16 and 18, coming on the trip or the hostel has permission to cancel the booking upon arrival. For groups over the age of 18, there fewer restrictions to complicate planning; however, it is important for teachers and older chaperones to know that many hostels will not allow adults over the age of 40 to stay in a shared room. When booking for this age group, hostels that are on the trendier side may be the most popular choice. These hostels provide nice and clean accommodations that are also sociable, yet respectful. They are also located in more local areas which can provide your students with an educational and authentic experience.

For University Students and Post-Graduate Students Traveling Together: Ages 18+

Student Hostels in Paris

Hostels are great, affordable places to stay when traveling from country to country with large groups of friends. The types of hostels best suited for these students are laid back and more rustic for young adults on a budget. The atmosphere entices sociable explorers to partake in an adventurous experience where they are able to meet other interesting and outgoing individuals.  There are not many limitations that these groups need to be made aware of, their job is to be focused on finding a hostel that will help them in their quest for an incredible journey. These hostels can be found in major cities with unbeatable prices at their unbelievably low rates.

How can you find the best hostel for your group?

As with most things, the internet is a great place to start your search for the ideal hostel for your group’s needs. Hostels can be found on many booking websites and reservations can be made online. Hostels can also be contacted directly by phone. Another option is contacting a travel agent to help you book your student trip. By explaining your situation, the travel agent will be able to use their industry expertise to find the hostel that best fits your group’s specifications with a pricing model that matches your trip’s budget. Your travel agent will ensure that your students get an educational and unforgettable experience at an affordable price under a safe and secure roof.

Looking for cheap places to stay in Paris, France? We can help! Here are some of our favorite hotel, hostel, and short-term rental options.

Hotels

While there are many expensive boutique hotels in Paris, there are also many more affordable options. Here are two of our favorites:

Hotel Ekta

Hotel Etka, a popular 3 star hotel, has room options starting at 77 euros per night. The hotel features Chanel and 1970s inspired décor and is located in the 8th arrondissement, which is famous for haute-couture shopping. If you stay here, you will be just a few blocks away from the Musée Yves Saint Laurent (definitely worth a visit!) and three metro lines.

Hotel Le Relais Montmartre

If you are interested in staying in the artsy Montmartre district, this 4 star hotel is a great option for you! It feels more like a home than a hotel, with antiques, a log fire, a courtyard patio, and friendly service. In the summer, you can enjoy your continental breakfast in the courtyard. Hostels

Staying in a hostel can help you save money and provide you with a unique, social travel experience. Here are two of our favorite hostel options.

Les Piaules

Les Piaules is located in the heart of Belleville, an artsy and cosmopolitan neighborhood in the 11th district of Paris. It is walking distance from a metro station and a short subway ride away from Le Marais and le Louvre. If you want a private bathroom, you can take advantage of their “the cosy one” option and choose a room with rooftop access. If you want to stay in dorm style rooms, you are provided with personal blackout curtains and a power plug to make your stay more convenient and comfortable. There is a restaurant and a bar in Les Piaules, which although not included in your room fee, have affordable food and drink options and are a great way to meet other guests!

Le Village Hostel

Le Village Hostel is located in the charming, hilly Montmartre district. If you are a solo female traveler looking for a hostel option, we recommend staying in the all-female rooms. Each room is serviced with daily housekeeping and there is an elevator, terrace, and shared kitchen in the hostel. Plus, the vibrant and fun communal spaces facilitate socializing with other guests!

Short-Term Apartment Rentals:

You should consider renting an apartment during your next trip to Paris if you want access to a private kitchen, living room, and bathroom and if you don’t need daily cleaning services or help from a concierge. You might also feel more “local” when you rent an apartment, as opposed to staying in a hotel or hostel full of other tourists. Airbnb is the most popular short-term rental option in Paris. It was founded in 2008 and is now offered in 100,000 cities. Paris is the most visited city worldwide for Airbnb users, which means that there are great options available for you! When finding an apartment, be sure to consider whether it is in a safe and central neighborhood and whether you want a private room or the whole apartment. Also, be sure to check the reviews of the host to avoid negative experiences and last-minute cancellations.

It’s important to understand you don’t have to miss out on a great location when staying in budget accommodation in Paris.  The public transport in the city makes it so that wherever you are, you can get to where you need to be quickly. With that in mind, make sure you book a hostel near a metro station! This can be the key to a good location!

The Marais Area in the 3rd and 4th Arrondissement

Self-Guided walking tour, le marais, budget accommodation in Paris

You may not have a vast knowledge of the Marais area, but that doesn’t mean it’s not a great place to visit and stay. The Marais is centrally located, with the Hôtel de Ville and Le Centre Pompidou, two great attractions, just within its boundary as well as being only a 15-minute walk from the Île de la Cité where you will find Notre Dame Cathedral and much more.  Since the 1980’s the Marais has also been the center of LGBT culture, and it has become an extremely fashionable district with a lot of trendy bars and restaurants all over so it is a great place to stay with student groups.

Hostels in this area usually average between €60-150 a night for two people, making it a good place to find budget accommodation in Paris without sacrificing on location.

The Bastille Area in the 11th Arrondissement

When looking for budget accommodation in Paris for students, Bastille may just be the perfect area for you.  Located in the 11th Arrondissement, the Bastille area is a stone’s throw away from the Marais.  With that in mind, much like the Marais, you are close to the center of Paris; only about a 30-minute walk from Notre Dame, and still surrounded by other attractions.  With Opera Bastille and Place de Bastille located in it, Bastille is a great area of culture and art.  It is also packed with lively places, with Rue de la Roquette stretching through the middle containing countless great restaurants and bars.

The area can provide budget accommodation in Paris as well, with prices ranging from €20-60 for a hostel for two people per night.

The Latin Quarter in the 5th Arrondissement

The Latin Quarter, which is just across the river from the Île de la Cité and a short walk from the Luxembourg Gardens is a great place to stay with students.  It is centrally located and has an abundance of lively restaurants, bars, and shops stretching through the entire district giving it an atmosphere like no where else in Paris.

You may find it harder to find as many hostels here, but the prices usually range from between €30-70 per night for two people so if you can, it could be the perfect place for you and your student group.
