For the trip along the French Riviera, your home base will be Nice.
You will start you day by taking the train from Paris (Gare de Lyon); then, you will get off at Nice (Nice – Ville) for a 6-hour comfortable TGV trip whose tickets are included in the price. Once you are in Nice, you will reach your hotel and you will get ready to start your adventure! You will spend the whole day visiting the wonderful town of Nice: starting from the Promenade des Anglais, a four-mile long seafront made in marble, watching the Mediterranean, from the Hotel Negresco – an historic monument which hosts the Salon Royal, that is, an elegant lounge room where you can have a drink – until the Castle Hill, where you will have a beautiful view of the town. Along the way, you will have the chance to stop at the Bay of Angels and enjoy the beaches, where you can chill, play volleyball or boules. Then, during the walk, you can stop at the Albert 1st park and have lunch – either on-the-go or in one of the good restaurants you will find.
During the afternoon, you can visit the Museum Chagall and the Museum Matisse, full of unique pieces of art by the two painters who changed the French and World art scene. After the visit, take a walk around the city and admire the baroque Church of Notre-Dame de l’Annonciation, along with the old town.
In the old town, you will find amazing restaurants for dinner and, to end your day in the best possible way, have a fancy drink at the Hotel Negresco, or enjoy the nightlife at the Distilleries Ideales. Otherwise, you can always enjoy the sunset at the Castle Hill and take a walk along the beach.
On your second day, you will be driven to Monaco. It takes only 30 minutes from Nice! However, on the way, you will stop in a wonderful small town: Èze.
First, after having reached the meeting point, you will take a fast train which, in only 20 minutes, will bring you directly to Èze, a flowery village with stylish boutiques and wonderful views. There, you can have a walk in the beautiful Jardins d’Èze and eat some typical food. Later, you can have a walk and enjoy some breath-taking views.
After lunch, you will finally reach Monaco: in this minuscule and amazing principality, you can easily enjoy all the main sights by walking. Beginning with the Palace Square, you can stroll around the city until the Prince’s Palace, the place where Prince Albert and his wife live.
You can enjoy the famous Changing of the Guard ceremony and then move to the Cathedral of Monaco. Along the way, you can also visit the Napoleon Collection, full of items which he left behind. Later, you can relax either at the
Cousteau Acquarium or at the Jardin Exotique, the fascinating municipal garden. Have a proper dinner in one of the fancy restaurants within the town and end your day at the Casino! There, you will feel comfortable and you will experience the thrill of slot machines and private gaming. When you start feeling tired – or once you have lost too much money – you will take the train which will bring you back in Nice.
You will start your 3rd day in Villefranche, a small Mediterranean-style town. The train will take only 10 minutes to reach the town. On Sundays and Saturdays you have the chance to experience a bric-a-brac market and a small food market, otherwise you can enjoy the breath-taking walks which will lead you along the harbour, in the citadel till the Chapel of St. Pierre, the city’s main cultural site.
After this short but relaxing break in Villefranche, you will reach Antibes, an old town full of maze-like streets, medieval towers and sandy beaches. Have lunch at the Market Hall (in the morning, it closes at 13:30) with local products and, after, you can visit the famous Picasso Museum, a three-floor museum full of important paintings and ceramics.
Then, you can take a walk around the town and visit the Church of the Immaculate Conception, built on the site of a Greek temple. You can enjoy the old town and the impressive Fort Carré (the citadel) but, above all, don’t forget to relax in one of the best beaches of the Côte d’Azur: you can choose among two, Plage de la Salis and Plage du Ponteil! Only for the brave, there is a great viewpoint climbing up from Plage de la Salis for around 20 minutes.
For dinner, you have endless options: picnic at the beach, cozy wine bars or elegant Tavernes: try some local food and, if you are still excited, join the party on Boulevard d’Aguillon! At the end of the day, you will take the train to go back to Nice.
You will spend your last day in Cannes, the best possible way to end your trip to the French Riviera! The fast train from Nice will take only 35 minutes to bring you to Cannes. Once there, you can enjoy the marvellous promenade around the bay called La Croisette and relax along the beaches. Of course, if it’s the end of May, you cannot miss the world-wide know Film Festival!
Then, you will have the chance to visit the Palais des Festivals and admire its unique architecture. Take a look at the old town called Le Suquet, a labyrinth of narrow streets full of small bar, restaurants and shops. At the top of the Suquet you can visit the eclectic collections of the Museum de La Castre, with ethic art, musical instruments and archaeological pieces, otherwise, you can reach the Fort Royal on the small and beautiful island of Ste Marguerite, to visit the place where the Man In The Iron Mask was locked in…
For lunch, you can enjoy a delicious meal along the shore or in the old town. After that, you will come back to Nice, where you can comfortably pack your stuff, leave the hotel and reach the train station, in order to go back to Paris!
