You will start your day off by taking a train from Paris to Normandy. Your guide will pick you up just outside of the train station. Then, set off in the mini-van to experience a piece of History!.
Your English-speaking guide will explain the significance of small towns such as Carentan, in between Utah and Omaha beaches, where the American Paratroopers landed many years ago.
Then you will stop for lunch either in a historic “café” (for those visiting from March to October) or in a traditional coffee shop in Bayeux.
After lunch, you will continue the tour by visiting Sainte-Mère-Église and the main route that both the American and German troops alike utilized to transport their equipment. Shortly after, you will see Pointe du Hoc and Omaha Beach, where many American troops arrived via boat. To end the tour, you will visit the Normandy American Cemetery and the adjacent visitor center that will provide the historical context of the region.
Then, you will be driven back to Bayeux, where you will be able to have dinner and stay overnight.
PLEASE NOTE: in low season (October to March), and because of a modification in the trains schedule, the full day excursion will be replace by a half day excursion: after reaching the city of Bayeux by train in the morning, and after free time for lunch, you will meet with your guide at 1:45pm and set off to discover the American Sector of the D Day sites: you will visit the Pointe du Hoc, where your guide will explain about the events of the D Day; you will also see the beach of Omaha, where, depending on the tide, you will have the opportunity to walk on the sand and see the cliffs from the soldiers perspective; finally, you will visit the American Cemetery, final resting place of 9386 soldiers, where you will have sufficient time to explore the visitor center before wandering in the cemetery. You will then be back in Bayeux around 5:45pm.
You will leave from Bayeux to Mont-Saint Michel, a fortificated island located about one km off the coast, seat of the Abbey Mont-Saint-Michel.
Your guide will explain the history of the small village and the importance of the Abbey. You will be guided through the narrow streets and in just minutes you will reach the magnificent Abbey, the icon of the island. There, you will have the opportunity to visit the breathtaking naves and all the different parts of the church (including the terrace, the cloister, the crypt and the refectory). Later, you will have time to get lunch in a traditional restaurant within the medieval village, where you can go in the afternoon to do some shopping and visit some small museums. Unless you prefer to walk on the fortified walls surrounding the island.
After lunch, you will continue the tour by visiting the bay with your personal guide. There, you will have the possibility to relax. Take as many pictures as you can and enjoy the amazing view, before going back to Bayeux with your guide.
