Your Next Market Tour and Cooking Class in Paris
Paris, the gastronomic capital of the world, provides an abundance of cooking classes to travelers, each offering their knowledge and expertise to those willing to learn. While any class can teach you the basics of French cooking, your ability to grasp the concepts depends on the method of instruction. Most cooking classes take place in a chef’s workshop under the direction of a strict culinary expert. Participation may not be as in-depth as you would like and the rigidity of the French cooking system can be a bit stressful and leave you wondering if learning how to cook is even worth it.
That’s where Perrine comes in. Her life-long passion for food has led her to enroll in workshops at Le Cordon Bleu and l’Atelier Ducasse, two prestigious culinary institutions specializing in the art of French cuisine. She has recently appeared on TV, cooking with world champion pastry chef, Christophe Michalak and “macaron magician” Jonathan Blot.
Unlike other French cooking classes, Perrine’s classes take place in he r home. She invites travelers to share her personal cooking space in an informal, relaxed environment as they prepare their meals. Participants (only a maximum of 5 or 6 at a time, which makes it all the more personal and participative) tackle every task themselves as Perrine gently guides them through the process. Although you are preparing authentic French cuisine, Perrine’s recipes contain no hard-to-find ingredients or impossible techniques. The goal is for participants to feel comfortable preparing their meals alone in order to recreate them with ease once back in their hometown.
I n addition to the original cooking workshops, Perrine also offers an All About Cheese Workshop at an award-winning cheese shop where you will learn about the aging process of cheese (as well as how to properly pair wine and cheese), a 2-hour Pastry Workshop popular among families with small children, and a 3-hour Macaron Workshop
for participants looking for more of a challenge.
Another unique aspect of Perrine’s classes is the market tour. Before your cooking workshop, Perrine takes you through an authentic Parisian market where you will learn how to select fresh produce to suit the meal that you will be preparing. In doing this, you will learn about the complete French cooking process, not just the actual meal preparation. Market tours can be added to most cooking workshops if planned in advance, as Paris markets only operate certain days of the week.
Perrine’s welcoming personality, charming home, and variety of workshop options are sure to delight any traveler looking for an authentic French culinary experience to take home with them.
