There’s something special about Pairs that manages to draw millions of visitors every year. Unfortunately, that means that, no matter when you go, there will always be crowds of people at the main monuments. But, don’t let that get you down! We’ve got some tips on how to beat the lines and have the best vacation possible!
The most visited landmark in Paris, the Eiffel Tower has some of the longest lines. Even if you get there before the ticket booths open, the line will already be enormous. If you don’t want to spend a large part of your day waiting, you have a couple of options. You can take the stairs to the second floor, which usually has little to no wait. However, this is provided you don’t have knee problems or small children with you, as it can be a difficult climb. Your best bet is to book your tickets well in advance to avoid the lines and the stairs altogether.
Another popular tourist spot, the Louvre sees around 15,000 visitors per day. With so many people circulating through it, lines are bound to be long and the wait could cost you more of your precious vacation time. If you’ll be visiting multiple Paris museums, you can purchase the Paris Museums Pass and skip the lines altogether. If you’ll only be in Paris for a few days or are not planning on visiting a lot of museums, you can enter the museum through an alternate entrance at the Porte des Lions, not far from the regular entrance. While there are usually no lines here, you will still have to wait a while to see the most popular exhibits, like the Mona Lisa.
Lines at Notre-Dame tend to be longer in the mornings, as tour buses tend to arrive as soon as it opens. However, lines are still long in the afternoon / evening, and you can’t really avoid them. Only a limited number of people are allowed to go up at a time, and, with 422 steps to the top, it can take a while. Your best bet would be to go at least an hour before doors open or to go as part of a guided tour group to ensure you get in at a decent time.
