While perhaps not something that initially jumps out as a delicious thing to try, escargot is, in reality, quite amazing and can be prepared in so many different ways. The snails are usually cooked in garlic butter, chicken soup or a wine. After this the meat is returned to the snails shell and a sauce is put on top. Special forks to extract the meat will be provided to you at most restaurants. This is truly one of the more classic, and sophisticated french foods that you must try!

4. Croissant

Often times the best experiences in life are the ones that are most simple. For example, walking past a bakery window early one morning in Paris and smelling these pastries is a truly unrivaled experience. The croissant is delicious any time of day, however, they are commonly enjoyed as a part of the French “petite dejeuner”. Similar bakes pastries such as pain au chocolate make for an equally fantastic treat.

Whether savoury or sweet, a crêpe is perfect for breakfast, lunch or even just a quick snack on the go. The classic french recipe calls for a crêpe to have butter and sugar within it, but we would suggest you do not limit yourself to just this. Here in Paris there are many crêperies and many of these places will prepare your crêpe right in front of you, putting on them whatever you might like. For a tasty dessert crêpe, we recommend trying one wrapped around Nutella!’

Throw a poached egg on top of that and you have yourself a Croque Madame… Considered by French café culture to be more of a quick snack than a meal, these are perfect for those wanting to take a quick respite from exploring to refuel. We highly recommend you enjoy this delicious French food with a little bit of mustard to give it that extra kick.

Wine in France is quite literally often times cheaper than water. So tour a wine cellar, explore a vineyard… or just kick back at a café with your favourite red and watch the world go by.
