UEFA Euro 2016

UEFA Euro 2016

Football is one of the most popular sport in the world. The UEFA Euro is a football competition among European countries, occurring every 4 years.  The UEFA Euro 2016 is the third time, after 1960 and 1984, that France was chosen to organize this competition, and it is one of the reason why France had chosen “Rendez-vous” as a slogan, what also refer to the fact that many countries are meeting again.

The UEFA 2016 will kick-off on June 10th and end on July 10th. For now, Spain and Germany own a record, with three victories each. France won the prestigious trophy twice already, and winning the competition this year would allow it to join Spain and Germany in the circle of the 3-time winners.

This season holds a lot of new surprises. First, unlike the last competition where 16 countries participated, this year 24 countries are qualified. To be noted: Gibraltar had it first chance to participate to the Euro this year, but although the country made it to the qualifications,  it unfortunately lost at the door of the competition.

The mascot of the UEFA Euro 2016 is a young boy with a red cap and football jersey. A vote of the fans decided it would be named Super Victor, name that won over otherslike Goalix and Driblou. Every competition needs an anthem, the famous French DJ David Guetta was given this task. The anthem will surely be as successful as his career!

And as for every competition, the winning country will bring home a trophy! For each type of competition, the trophy has a different name; for the UEFA Euro, it’s the Henri Delaunay trophy, created by Henri Delaunay himself, a French football administrator.

The Euro 2020 will be special as the UEFA will celebrate its 60th anniversary.
